Radix reports (another) strong half of premium domain sales – Domain Name Wire
Premium sales continued their momentum in the first half of 2022.
Top-level domain registry Radix has revealed its premium sales data for the first half of 2022, and it’s top right.
The company estimates that registrars earned $3.82 million from the sale of its premium inventory in the six months ending June 2022. This is an estimate as it doesn’t always know what markup registrars have added to its wholesale prices.
That’s up from $2.98 million in the second half of last year and $2.91 million in the first half of 2021.
$2.5 million of the total half came from renewals. Radix uses the top-to-top model for premium domains; domains are more expensive than non-premium domains for initial registration and renewals.
Renewal revenue increased 38% compared to the second half of last year.
.Tech continues to top the Radix charts. 441 new premium .tech domains were registered for $390,000 during the semester. That’s up from $332 and $335,000 in the second half of last year. And .tech also leads in renewal revenue.
GoDaddy and Namecheap are the two main registrars for Radix premium domains.
About 40% of premium domain registrations were three-letter domains.
Radix reports that 87% of premium domains that enter their third or subsequent renewal period are renewed.
