Medical CDID produces AFC Concept for Medical 2028 | Item
AUSTIN, TX – As the U.S. military continues to modernize to make soldiers and units more lethal to deploy, fight, and win our nation’s wars, experts across the military are developing concepts to meet future challenges.
For the past 18 months, members of the Medical Capability Development Integration Directorate (CDID) have worked tirelessly with partners in the U.S. Army medical community and the Defense Health Agency through experiences and forums to ensure buy-in and approval of the first medical concepts released by Army Futures Command.
On March 4, 2022, Lt. Gen. Scott McKean, Deputy Commanding General, US Army Future Command and director, Center for Futures and Conceptssigned the Army Futures Command Concept for Medical 2028.
Major General Dennis LeMaster, Commanding General, U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE), COL James Jones, Director, Medical CDID, and others attended the event.
According to Jones, “Lt. General McKean’s approval and signing of the Army Health Systems (AHS) Medical Operations Concept is a historic victory for the entire Army. This document fundamentally changes the way our company manages, trains, organizes and equips formations in the future to deliver the highest good and ultimately retain fighting strength.
The medical concept is the foundation for all future medical experimentation, requirements and integrations, as it drives changes for doctrine, organization, training, material, leadership and education, personnel, facilities and policy (DOTMLPF-P).
Medical CDID works closely with MEDCoE to bridge the gap between concepts and doctrine. Medical CDID develops Center of Excellence-related concepts and requirements and conducts experiments to validate DOTMLPF-P integrated combined arms capabilities that complement joint, interagency, and multinational capabilities.
MEDCoE develops adaptive medical doctrine that supports the Army and Joint Force and is responsible for training, educating, and inspiring all Army medical personnel.
“The Army Future Command Concept for Medical 2028 is the first concept in the Army conceptual framework that focuses on medical operations. It outlines how AHS, together with its Unified Action Partners, will support the health of operational forces during competition, the preservation of our combat strength in the event of conflict, and the remainder of our forces in a return to competition,” said Major General Dennis LeMaster, Commanding General of MEDCoE.
The Army Futures Command for Medical 2028 concept outlines changes to how AHS will enable and sustain multi-domain operations against peer and near-peer competitors during the 2028 timeframe.
LeMaster said, “The paper emphasizes that all medical technologies must integrate via artificial intelligence in an operational way and demonstrate their effectiveness in reducing DNBI, improving clinical outcomes and increasing return-to-work rates. Technology must inform the entire AHS, enable the commander, ensure joint interoperability, and retain combat strength. It describes why our information requirements are essential! »
The identification and development of future technologies is essential to meet the needs of the Army’s future goals of the MDO-capable force of 2028 and the ability to conduct MDO across a range of scenarios in multiple theaters by 2030.
Jones recognizes that it takes a dedicated team of professionals to develop a concept of this magnitude.
“I would like to thank all of my fellow CDID Directors who have represented the Warfare Combat Functions, U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command, Director, Future and Concept Center, MEDCoE of the U.S. Army and the Surgeon General for their incredible mentorship, guidance, and support that led to this world-class document.
